I am wondering if a star chart is available for my birth date 14th of July, 1986. I basically want to know the positions of the stars on that date. Is there a website or any other resource that can provide me with one?
Not for astrological significance….just want a tattoo on it.

  2. Vultre9 says:

I mean, what would Jeppesen change for a United-customized STAR chart? All SID’s and STAR’s are normally the same for everyone, right?!

  3. Mark M says:

  5. Only Business says:

She eats a reasonable variety of veg but will only eat apples. Won’t touch meat/pasta/rice etc won’t eat pizza. Have tried hiding things in other things;cooking with her; trying one new food a week-nothing works. If she hasn’t tried it before she will not even try one bit despite star charts everything we can think of. Rest of the family will eat anything-any ideas beyond starving her in to submission?

  6. unbleevable39 says:

I’ve always thought they were the ones that didn’t flicker (blue, red, etc)

I know they have star charts and stuff that would point them out, but that would be a serious pain in the ***.

    Any rules of thumb?

  7. kass9191 says:

I can find the right ascension and declination of stars on a star chart, but I’m unsure how to find the altitude and azimuth on a star chart.

Lets say we’re at a longitude of 30 degrees N. How does that affect finding the altitude and azimuth of a star on a 2D paper grid star constellation chart?

  8. Thomas A says:

I have a son that just turned 5 and is a total nightmare. His behavior is really terrible. He is RUDE and throws tantrums by jumping up and down and kicking things. He hits me, hits and attacks his 3 year old sister (bites her and try’s to upset her). I’ve tried everything. Star charts, spanking, time outs, taking things away, not letting him have things. He is really getting out of control in public. I took him to the movies and he threw a tantrum, stomped and sat down in the middle of the mall and told me he wanted me to leave and a stranger could take him. His tantrums get worse and worse, he will get placed in his room, and throw things at the walls, I try to intervene and he screams and if i close the door he opens it and comes right out. His sister is starting to act like him and I do not want a 5 and 3 year old that are impossible to manage. WHAT should I do? I need something that is going to work.

  9. Harriet W says:

i have a star chart, and it has directions such as north south etc. does that mean i look in the direction that it is on earth? for example do i look “north” if the chart says north, or is it universal north (if that even exists!)

  10. NC Baller says:

How would I answer this question using a star chart and the celestial coordinate system?

    My location is 40.8 degrees N; -77.9 degrees W

  11. Jonathan says:

There’s this one star (might be a planet) that’s particularly bright every night and twinkles with hints of blue and red. I’ve tried looking at star charts but they’re overloaded with stars and I can’t locate it. Imagine the Little Dipper being directly above you. 180 degrees straight down is the Big Dipper. 180 degrees straight down from that is a very bright star. This is how they are alligned where I am. Can anyone tell me what this bright star is named?

  12. ScRSC says:

This is a spin-off from another question. I believe parents wouldn’t spank if they knew more affective ways of disciplining. So, lets help those that don’t want to spank by offering what we do.

I’ll kick this off. When my children seem to be doing one behavior (i.e. not sharing, not eating, whining) that needs to be changed, I create a family star chart. If they refrain from doing the behavior, I put a star on the chart. For example, every time I see them share, they get a star, collectively. We don’t keep track of who get which star. When the chart if full, they get the specified reward (a zoo trip, ice cream, movie, etc.). At the beginning, I have to preface activities by saying, if you share, you’ll earn a star. Usually, they need about 20-30 stars for the reward. Something they can achieve in a week.

    Other ideas?

  13. Mak Sultan says:

I want to take a a girl out and look at the stars with her with my telescope and need to know where to buy a star map star chart or whatever its called.

I Have loaned from the library a “Stars and Planets” Field guide revised 4th edition that I believe came out around 2005, I really find the book useful and have found a 2nd edition book to purchase for extremely cheap. Will the star charts and information in this older edition (around 1985-90) be useful still or is it to outdated? Also are there any cheap informative books that you may recommend?

  18. Muzahid says:

  19. Harriet W says:

    How big is it?
Where can I see it, in relation to a star chart (Ex, is it near Orion, Big Dipper, or some other constellation, etc)?
How much space would it take up if it were in our Solar System? Would it take up the same amount of space as Saturn’s orbit or go out to Pluto’s orbit or what?

  20. lildevilgurl152004 says:

For some reason my mind is completely scrambled and I’ve lost track of my books informing me of such location. If someone would please provide me with the proper coordinates, I would be much appreciative of it.

Also: Which star chart do you use? And is there a star chart (or similar) that would provide me with further assistance down the line so I would not have bother with asking a question like this? My mind is boggled tonight. Seesh!

in what constellations did the sun reach its most northerly and southerly positions along the ecliptic when: r was in Aries? use a present day star chart to identify these positions and extrapolate them back by the same amount that you have to move r back to be Aries.what is the geographical significance of this?

  27. Lasagna delivery guy says:

My children are 7 and 9 years old. When I ask them to do something they will look at me and do what they want. For instance today I asked them to clean their room. Instead they chose to play. I have grounded them, taken items away, used star charts with incentive rewards, and used time out. I am not sure what else to do. Any suggestions? I will not accept spanking as an answer because I don’t believe that is a good form of discipline.

Im not sure how to ask the question. I am a Pisces sun and Virgo Ascending (Aries Moon). Pisces and Virgo are opposites. How do opposites work in a persons star chart?

  29. Jack Bauer says:

For an astronomy project, I have to plot the stars on a star chart using an astrolobe. I built it with a 360 degree protractor on the bottom, and it points to the west as 90 degrees. But someone told me that 90 degrees was to the East. Is my protractor backwards? Does it matter?

Also, I know that when I plot them on a chart, East and West switch. Do the angles switch also?

    Thank you!

  30. Paul M says:

On the star charts in the back of the book, the green area that represents the Milky Way Galaxy hides the circular representations of the stars. The designations (Greek letters) are still visible, but the stars are missing. Are all copies of this edition defective, or just mine?

Do you think 3 is to young to start something like this? And do you think it is a good idea?
just to clear things up my daughter has been in a bed (normal sized single bed) for almost 2 months , prior to that she was in a toddler bed from the age of 2. She has a very set night time routine that has been the same since the day she was born bathtime, story time, cuddle, light off sleep and she goes off to sleep straight away. It’s not North, East, South and West, right? If we had hyperdrive or warp drive right now, what’s the most probable system astronauts could use? 3D star charts?

Or could they just hang a left at Canis Major, straight a couple of light-years, and down the next nebulae to get to Tatooine for a couple of drinks at the Mos Eisley Cantina?

    Just curious. Thanks!

  40. Myles says:

Why were Tycho Brahe’s star charts so important in deciding the correct model of the solar system?

  41. norrin_shadowwolf says:

It seems like my husband and I have fallen into using a lot of disciplining rather than positive reinforcement around our house. Just to be clear, I mean grounding not spanking. This is not to say that our home has fallen into a fascist state but I do think that the environment would be better if we used some kind of chore chart or star chart in which the kids could earn treats for doing the things that they are supposed to do rather than earning punishment when they don’t do those things.

For anyone who uses a chart system, how did you set it up? What earns the child a star? Do you take away stars for bad behavior or only give them for good? What kind of treats or prizes do your kids earn? Our kids are 13, 12, 7, 5 and we are on a fairly tight budget so going to the movies and things like that are out; however, we do have passes to the zoo, local museums and the science center. We also live close to two state parks. Would these types of trips be good treats? Thanks!

  42. Maggie says:

How do you find out the time on the star chart from ecliptic horizon? When the star is already passed the horizon and when it is below the line? And give me an example for Altair. A detailed answers please.

  45. PolishPokeyPimp says:

My daughter is three now and she needs to be potty trained as soon as possible because she should be going into the preschool room at her daycare: no diapers allowed.

We have used a reward system, a potty star chart, and tons of other things. She hides to poop and lies about doing it.

Last week I decided enough is enough and I let he pick out panties and during the day she wears only them. She has been doing really well with peeing in the potty- only 1 accident- but she still poops a tiny bit in every pair of panties I put on her. I put her in a diaper for nap and bed time and she will hold her poop (except for the tiny bit that comes out all the time) until she has a diaper on.

So, what now? What can I do to get her to use the potty. I’m not sure if putting her to bed in panties is a good idea because I don’t think she’ll wake up to pee and I’m afraid I’ll have a tough time cleaning her mattress?

    And advice?

  46. Jerosh Nagulachandran says:

I have a map of the star constellations for the Northern hemisphere but I can’t find the stars I can see in the sky. Has anyone else had this problem? I can remember the pattern I saw last night but I cannot find it anywhere on my star chart! It’s frustrating.

What kind of chores do you think they are ready for?

  48. Boo Cookie says:

Like a programmed viewer of some sort, where you look at one supposed region of the sky so that it would be like standing outside. Or, a set of star charts according to location? Preferably photos of constellations, not drawings or the like. Thanks in advance!
It would be great if the constellations were viewed from North America. Just a minor detail for positioning purposes, but it isn’t a big deal really.

  49. Gabriel Kenney says:

  50. ibjammin44 says:

My parents really believe in horoscope readings, tea leaf readings and star chart reading. I always try to convince them it’s haram and have even shown them a relevant Hadith on the matter, but they keep saying, “We don’t really believe in it, we just do it for enjoyment sake”. I really get the feeling they do believe in it though. What is the best way to guide them away from these sinful things in a respectful manner?

My Sun is at 15 degree cancer which is conjunct both Canopus and Sirius. From what I have gathered, Sirius does not sound like a gentle star at all, in fact, it sounds violent and scary. And I am not sure about Canopus description.

These two fixed stars happen to fall into my 10th house, Mars is also conjunct the Sun 3 degrees orbs, its not conjunct the 2 fixed stars but does it mean anything at all ?

    Thanks for any information.
Oh wow, thank you, Antares. Canopus is the only second brightest star in the sky, only after Sirius. Why does it sound so bad lol.

Antares is one of the fixed star as well, yeah ?

Thank you heaps anyway, again. That was very informative.
To Forth : well neither one you are going to get, buddy. Keep on dreaming.

However, all the charts I’ve checked for the Northern Hemisphere seem to tell me that Orion isn’t visible in July! HELP!!!

  133. fattiemanny says:

I took an astronomy class this past semester and we used a certain star chart that I’ve used in other astronomy classes (the same exact one) as well. It’s long and thin (rectangular) and shows the months and times for location and the stars go alone a sine wave to account for the Earth’s precession. It also includes the star names, constellation names, names of some asterisms and the magnitude of each star is portrayed by the size of the dot on the chart with a key at the bottom. It seems like a lot of astronomy teachers use this chart. It’s a really nice chart that’s not too fancy but still not so basic that you can’t learn from it. Both teachers have also mentioned that this chart is reissued every 50 years.

I want to watch the stars this week and use the chart as an aid. I can’t find the chart anywhere on Google. I don’t need to print one out (although that’d be nice). I just want to find that chart or one very similar if I can.
