I’m 18 and thinking of learning photoshop, I’ve been using it for almost a year but only for drawing and small painting purposes, I barely know anything about photo manipulation and painting but that’s fixable. What I wonder is, what can get out of it? A decent job/payment? Like?

  2. mavis24 says:

My brother is trying to take a photo where his subject in the foreground is in focus but the background has a blur of people (as if life is just ticking by). Using Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority won’t work because the picture is in the daylight. Is there any way around this?

I had the idea of taking multiple photos and then just editing it on Photoshop or some other photo manipulation software. Would that work?

  3. Cupcakerum says:

Ok, so I’ve taken a recent interest in photo manipulation in photoshop, but I’m not very familiar with everything in it and the features. Could anyone give me a link or something to a good tutorial, all the other ones I’ve looked for are way to specific, I just need the basics for a beginner. Thanks!

  4. Ssshhhh Im becoming aroused says:

I have been looking for websites with tutorials for photoshop/ photo manipulation but the only decent ones I’ve found have been in Spanish. Any help?

  5. floydian8717 says:

Just basically wanting to know how celebrities feel about photo manipulation. Whether the like it or not. And could you also give me examples of celebrities who like/dislike it and leave a link for the website you found that information on. Thanks:)

  6. Jesse says:

I wonder if there are any other really good photo manipulation/painting programs which you can buy/download?
I’m getting a little tired of Photoshop,I mean, everyone has it,everyone knows it’s secrets. Is there any other good program?

I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended. Is the latest one Photoshop CS4?
How much different is it from CS3?

  7. Random says:

How do I do this? Preferably in a way that doesn’t affect the line quality of the drawing and only makes the white pixels transparent.

Key words: photoshop, photo shop, paint draw copy paste layer mask technique photo manipulation, design graphic, raster.

  8. Mak Sultan says:

I currently just lost my usual program and am looking for a new free one? I want to use it for sketches and animation, not just regular photo manipulation.. any ideas?

  9. Alina Elliott says:

Not talking 100% expert, but decent or more. I know it’s extremely hard and I may be too late (18) but I’m interested in learning. I’m not 100% expert either, it’s just that I use it only to draw, know very little actual photo manipulation and effects.

  10. Kaylla says:

    I’m curious.
My sister said photo manipulation is, because it’s just copying other people’s work and putting it on top of each other (don’t be offended if you are a photo manipulator, I am one, and she was just saying that to get me to get a ‘life’ whatever that is).
    So what is your opinion?

  11. Chris R says:

I want to submit a photo manipulation to the fair this year, but I don’t have very many pictures of people to work with. I know it’s okay to take pictures of people as long as you’re on public property and there’s no reasonable expectation of privacy, but is it okay to use those pictures in a contest, like the fair?
Do you have to have the permission of the people?

  12. The Inc says:

    Graphics card,
    Hard drive,
    Graphics tablet,

    Photo manipulation software,
    Image organisers.

If you could help on any of these I would be grateful.

  13. Phillip123 says:

I’m really into photo manipulation. I’ve never bought software to play around with photos but I was thinking of getting Photoshop Lightroom 4. I have heard some great reviews on it but do you think it would be a good idea for me to get or would it be too big of a step?

Also, all I have is a laptop so do you think I could work on photoshop fine with a laptop?

  14. Mak Sultan says:

Specifically things like anime, manga and game illustrations. It’d also be very handy if it’s equipped for photo manipulation. I don’t care about the price. I want the one that works the best and has the most options.

I already worked with gimp, and I have to wonder will there also be a big difference?

  15. Sergeant Pickle says:

If it helps, the photo manipulation programs I have are MS Paint(or course…),, and gimp.

  16. Sergio says:

I’m getting ready to send my photos to a gallery and i’m unsure of what category to place them under.
On all four photos i’ve enhanced the colors in photoshop, and thats all. Would that be photo manipulation or just photography?

  17. SteveO says:

I need some artist research, so I need to find artists that use people/portraits etc in photo-manipulation. Like fantasy/surreal, whatever really.
I know there are tons on DeviantArt but I’m not sure I can use members of the site as research?

    Please help, thanks.

  27. apleaforbrandon says:

I have Photoshop Elements, but I really need to know the opinions of everyone else.

I’ve been working on an illustrated graphic novel (the plotline and character descriptions) for about three or four years off and on..and then, I only used graphite..but now I have a 9 x 12 inch Adesso graphics tablet and I’d like to know the simplest, most effective program that would work with my tablet. Digital art as in ink and coloring scanned works..not photo-manipulation.

    Thanks in advance!

  28. Marlon P says:

I want to tweak photos a bit to make em’ look better but I don’t want photoshop.. Is there any other professional software that is good for photo manipulation? (free is recommended but it doesn’t have to be free.. Anything would work) Thanks

  29. Le Pwner says:

Ok, open up an image in GIMP photo manipulation program. Once it’s load, look at the RHS toolbox – “Layers, Channels, Paths, Undo” you will see an “eye” icon next to your selected layer. If you click the white button next to the “eye” icon it will show you a “chain” icon. I checked the chain icon and nothing happens to my image. So whats exactly is the purpose of the chain icon? I wanna know please. Thanks peeps.

  30. Alex says:

I like to do photo manipulations, and of course i dont want anyone to steal my work because ive worked hard on it.

But what i want to know is if i should or can out a watermark on my manipulations.
Most of my manips are photos from other people, and i do credit them if i use their photo. I also try to get permission.

So since the original artwork/photograph belongs to someone else, is it right for me to add my own water mark to my manipulation photo?
-I dont want to claim is as my photography, but id like to claim it as my artwork…?
Just to point something out, im not profiting off of it in any way. I just do it for practice/as a hobby.
Some day i will take my own photos and make a manipulation.
    -Y’all have soo much sass.

  31. Lasagna delivery guy says:

So I’m going to a university next year that has 20,000+ undergrad students, and I’m planning on majoring in Art & Design. I’ve been accepted, but I still have to submit a portfolio by the 27th….I’ve got some stuff for it, but it’s crunch time and I feel like I’m still lacking something, and I am FREAKING out because I want everything right so I can definitely get into the program.

Here’s what I have so far:
-photography (my strongest field, I literally have thousands of photos I could submit)
-graphic design stuff (photo manipulations, severe creative edits, etc.)
-jewelry that I’ve made (mostly buying beads/repurposing beads from old things and fashioning them into new bracelets, earrings, and necklaces)
-several pairs of paint splattered jeans
    -a mosiac that’s around 8×8
-melted crayon art on a 16×20 canvas (and it’s a little different than everything I’ve seen online)

and that’s about it…so total, I was planning on doing like 3 pieces of photography (including one that won in an art show), 2 graphics things, a jewelry set (necklace, bracelet, and earrings), the jeans, mosaic, and melted crayon art piece…that’s 9 pieces…

I could try and finish a painting, but I never seem to want to finish the ones I’ve started….

My art teacher also just told me like last week that I need sketches, but I’m not that great at sketching (and I’m going more for digital art so it’s not entirely what I need to do in college)

so my question is: Do you think I’ll be able to get into their program, what else do you think I need, and is there any way I could submit my portfolio and get accepted without having to do a sketch?

    Thanks so much!!!

  32. Xavier Hawthorne says:

Hi. I am interested in eventually buying and learning how to use photo-shop for editing and trying to learn photo-manipulation. When I do eventually buy photo-shop, which edition should I use? Will I be able to start on the latest version or will I have to learn on an older edition and then buy a newer one? And would you recommend internet tutorials or buying a photo-shop guide book?

  33. The Inc says:

I just need to find a free photo manipulation/editing program that allows me to do these three things:

    1. has a multi-gradient text feature (like can have rainbow text)
    2. has a feature that can make text glow
    3. can wrap text around objects

    Thank You

Am working on a photo manipulation project but finding the right pic to start editing isn’t easy! Is there some sort of searchable database holding copyright-free/public domain photos on the web?

  35. Ed D says:

I’m looking into some photo manipulation softwares, and was wondering which ones were the best. What exactly would I be able to do with a software like that? Do you have any before and after pictures of photos that you have taken and then changed with a software that I could see?
Also, do you consider using a software like that to be art. Or do you think it’s a little like cheating?

  36. Bryan J says:

    And particularly photo manipulation?

I use Photoshop CS3 at college, but there is no way I can afford it.
I like the look of digital art, and would be interested in creating some for my personal use.

What software is good for manipulating and editing photos? Is PSElements any good?

I have GIMP, but don’t bother using it.

  37. Mc L says:

How do I do this? Preferably in a way that doesn’t affect the line quality of the drawing and only makes the white pixels transparent.

I never had any lessons in graphic art,
but I do excellent work in photo manipulation.
My Facebook friends are always wanting me to fix pictures up for them.
I am a 21 year old single mother, and times are hard.
Im tired of doing it for free, and I want to expand what I do.

    I’d like to make T-shirts,
    Help with website banners,
    make FB covers,
and anything and everything you could possibly imagine.

    Will someone help/??

  39. PillowMan1234 says:

I enjoy taking photos and making photo-manipulations with photoshop, I’ve been thinking about getting a drawing tablet . Which it best for beginners? I’d one in the low $200 USD price range. I also, move around a lot, so I use a laptop and don’t use a desk. Therefore, I’d need drawing tablet that doesn’t need to lay flat.

  40. Terrence says:

I want to learn photo manipulation and I found a good stock model. I want to create a goddess, Mother Nature. I found a good stock model but I want to change her entire outfit. Is that possible? Also, I found a model of just a head with no body. Can I add a body?

I have a certificate in Digital Photo Manipulation (and a clear CRB, although I want to teach adults , not children).

Is it realistic of me to think that I can become a private tutor?

I’d welcome advice from those in the know, and those who’ve experience of private tuition.

I am working towards Med School which is a huge time commitment, but I know that it is what I want to do with my life. At the same time, I love photography, and doing photo manipulations in photoshop. It relaxes me and gives me a sense of self expression and achievement. The thing is, my art hobby will never pay the bills, but it take quite a bit of time. Should I be sidelining it to concentrate on my studies, or will I loose my healthy balance if I give up my art?

  49. Hotshot t says:

  55. SteveO says:

Hi, I was just wondering if someone could tell me why it took so long for Western artists to move away from trying to realistically depict the world, and to move onto more fantastic or abstract art such as we saw in the 20th Century. I realise there was a small degree of fantasy-like art before this, such as mythological depictions, and surreal works by painters like Heironymous Bosch, but I don’t understand why there wasn’t much more of this throughout the ages.

My professor wants us to now to use an abstract and am curious where you would put the title. Before or after the abstract. If I put it after the abstract, its closer to the bottom of the page, which looks odd. And I don’t think you’re supposed to put it before the abstract. Is the abstract to be on a separate page maybe?

Do you feel that photo’s should be kept at their natrual state or do you feel it’s alright if the photos are manipulated?

In my opinion, I think that photo editing is just another way of expressing yourself in your photos. You can use special editing things to create a different emotional effect to a photo. It’s just another new factor in photography. Some people have a totally different view on it and think photos should be kept natural.

what are your thoughts on this ?

  118. SteveO says:

I recently had a bit of an “issue” where I did some photos for a couple and they purchased all the digital files (but no copyright release). I later stumbled upon the wife’s facebook page only to find that her profile picture was one of the photos I did for them….”bedazzled” with glittery words, clip art, and piknik effects. I don’t know if that’s the only one she edited or if she did most/all of them like that.

I get that this is the era of facebook and some people actually do have a weird taste for super contrasted, color-saturated pictures with cheesy vignettes. But I’m not “that” photographer, and I don’t want to be associated as being “that” photographer. I let this incident go because it seemed rather isolated and small, but how can I prevent that from happening in the future?

I don’t release the copyright to clients and all my client CD’s come with my logo sticker on the front which has a copyright statement printed beneath my name. I allow the clients to use the images for their social media, but prints come through me (or at least require my permission first). Is there some sort of wording I can put on the client agreement forms that specify that they do not have permission to manipulate images that are copyrighted to me?
I disagree about not giving out CD’s. I offer prints, cavasses, photo books, note cards, and announcements, but clients DO want CD’s and so they BUY them. I’m not going to stop working in digital media. I just needed a way to specify in the client agreement that they cannot manipulate the digital images they purchased without a copyright.

And for what it’s worth, I already do give clients a cd of proofs that are watermarked and low resolution. I actually give them the low resolution watermarked digital files as part of the shoot and they have to purchase the CD if they want the unwatermarked files.

I heard from another photographer that I should include a folder with the contracts in it on the CD, so that it’s right there with the images.

I would like to know how to turn a pic black and white, and leave some parts in color.I have been researching different methods for this online, in tutorials, and on answers, believe me I have tried to figure this out on my own. But I can’t even figure out how to open a new layer with the picture in it or put the pic in a new layer once it’s opened. Exact instructions for these specific programs will earn best answer, if you include every step. I have 2 different programs that use layers. Paint shop pro studio, andSerif photoplus 6.0. I have been trying to figure out for two weeks how to apply this effect, apparantly I’m not smart enough. What RGB do you use to paint with to get realistic fleshtones? Or, if you place a black and white layer over a color version of the same pic, and then erase over the places you want to keep color, exactly what are the steps to do that? I don’t have a steady enough hand to use the selection tool to cut and paste, it turns out horrible every time
