After watching the morgan freeman through the worm hole about having a soul, 5 leading brain scientists says when the brain dies your soul is gone and we do not.
Even before this though I always constantly have thoughts about eternal death and its very terrifying.

I’m also terrified of getting cancer and not just growing old slowly.
I vaporize a lot of marijuana because of this (trying to live every moment, but I eat good and work out)

I’m very creative, and even the family guy creator says he suffers from these thoughts. It’s the ultimate motivator. I have my own game studio and I’m a character / environment designer.

The problem is though I think maybe I should be dedicating my life chemical engineering or dna programming or computer science. I have been thinking about cryogenics alot we really will be able to suspend our brains and bring them back in the future, but it may be a while.

I read about a young person in his 20’s who dedicated his life to studying chemistry possibly for these reasons and he died of cancer.

It’s like you cannot win. Dedicate yourself towards curing cancer and helping yourself and others live longer ( but hating every second of it ) and then possibly regretting it if you die young anyway.
I’m not sure what to do

I am English, 20 years old, and I guess I could call myself a freelance graphic designer at the time-being. I lcurrently live in Brighton, UK.

    Firstly, why London?
Because I live in Brighton, so travel wouldn’t be too bad… And London is one of the creative hearts of the world.

    Secondly, why Amsterdam?
Because I’m in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend who lives in the Netherlands… And Amsterdam is also one of the creative hearts of the world.

I speak a little Dutch… But only the basics. Things like “Hello”, “How are you?”, “My name is”, etc. Is speaking fluent Dutch an absolute must in Amsterdam? Or is it just a slight advantage?

    My qualifications…

    City College Brighton & Hove, 2011 – 2012 (College)
Art & Design BTEC Foundation Diploma – July 2012 – Distinction

    Lewes 6th Form College, 2009 – 2011 (College)
    AS Photography – June 2010 – C
    A2 Applied Art & Design (Double) – June 2011 – C/D
    A2 English Language & Literature – June 2011 – D

Peacehaven Community School, 2004 – 2009 (Secondary School)
Physical Education (Short Course)- June 2008 – A*
    Functional Skills Mathematics – January 2008 – Level 2
    Art & Design – June 2009 – A
    Physical Education – June 2009 – A
    Graphic Products – June 2009 – B
    English Language – June 2009 – B
    English Literature – June 2009 – B
    Citizenship Studies – June 2009 – B
    Mathematics – June 2009 – C
    Core Science – June 2009 – C
    Optional Science – June 2009 – C
    ICT – June 2009 – Pass

I’ve not had much experience in terms of working with design agencies and whatnot, as I’ve just finished college in July 2012. Since then I’ve been looking, but nothing has come up – it’s so competitive! So for the time being, I’ve just been trying to build up my portfolio and experience by collaborating with individuals and small companies. For example, at the moment, I’m working with someone to start up his social enterprise – doing brand development, infographics, etc.

So right now, I guess I’d be looking for an internship placement. Getting a junior level designer placement at an agency would be amazing! But, I don’t think I’m good enough really.

Here’s my portfolio, if you’d like to take a look…
    http://be.net/LaurenceWhymark

The majority of my work is from college, from my Art Foundation course (which I’ve just finished). I’ve only really had one “real” year doing graphic design properly (which is my college year). I’ve always been interested in it, but not pursued in it until recently.

What are your thoughts? Is my work good enough (please critisise if needed)? Should I look in to working in London or Amsterdam? Should I remain in Brighton for now building up my portfolio and work experience?

Any advice would be great, thank you!

  12. isk8at818 says:

Im a teen who is looking into becoming a professional photographer. I need some help picking out my first “real” camera. I’ve considered the Nikon D80 and Cannon EOS Rebel, but i’m not an expert. I am moderate and want a camera that will bring out the color in the natural picts i will be taking. Please refer the best choice for me and how much a good price would be :) thanks

  13. Bryant B says:

I am in love with art. but i am a beginner. i would like to be better. But my biggest problem at the moment is trying to think of things to draw.( i am into fantasy, nature, and anime) I would really like to think of cool ideas like making the ground the sky and the sky the ground (example is one of my friends drawings). Any ideas to get my brain thinking any better??

  14. Jeracoo L says:

Im year 11 at the moment, Next year Im planning to take:

    English language
    Phsycology
    Philosophy and ethics
    Photography

Do these sound okay or do they sound like “soft” subjects? I do want to go to university to train to be a primary school teacher, but I can’t take anything like Maths or science because there not my strongest GCSE subjects. I was considering History though as im okay at that at GCSE.

  15. Stevalicious says:

Fashion has always struck me as a very of-the-moment, shallow, materialistic business, which is populated by too-cool-for-school types. I’ve been researching fashion and designing clothes since I was a child, doodling dresses in the margins of my notebooks. I was one of those nerdy kids who read everything and watched arthouse movies. I’m interested in Victorian romanticism, rich fabrics, odd prints, bright colours, and surrealist touches. My own style is unique, and people often remark on it. Fashion strikes me as being conformist in general, because everyone seems enslaved to what is the style this season. I consider myself more creative than cool. Is fashion really only for the impossibly cool and chic? I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I really don’t know too much about the day-to-day business of fashion design

  17. Alun J says:

So, I am a straight “A” female sophomore and am very smart. My art teacher thinks I’m amazing and says I should be a fashion designer. I am also quite good at sewing. He says he knows people that are designers and says they are off pretty well. Is this a respected career? Or is this like when people say they want to be an actor or singer and people say ” go for you dreams!” please be honest :)

  18. Stevalicious says:

I’m looking for graphic artists who copyleft their work. Anyone know where I might find a listing?

  19. John G says:

so i really want to improve my art skills but i need to know if its even possible?im at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to drawing im willing to work very hard at it is it possible to get better?and how should i practice?thanks for help

  20. Scorch Delta-62 says:

Why do artists work in themes when creating their artwork? For example, this year in my art class, all of our projects have been based off of “past, present, and future” and last year it was “America the Melting Pot”. Do you know why my class and other true artists work in themes when creating their work?

Some graffiti artists, such as David Choe or Shepherd Fairey, go completely public (sharing their name, videos of them uncensored, etc.) about the completely illegal graffiti they do, but they do not get arrested on sight. Other artists, such as Banksy, would get arrested and be charged with any crimes if their identity was revealed. How can this be?

    Thanks
I mean like not during the crime. I understand how they get away with it in the act. But now that Shepherd Fairey and Banksy are both world-wide known graffiti artists. Shepherd Fairey’s identity is known and Banksy’s is not, however Shepherd Fairey is not arrested for being a vandal and Banksy would be if his identity was revealed. (In fact I’m pretty sure he’s facing charges or was before because somebody got a picture of him).
Like Shepherd has cameras on him all day. He publicly is known as Obey and there’s proof EVERYWHERE that it is really him. But if he were to even get caught in the act, the police for some reason don’t charge him for EVERYTHING he has done, just what he is caught doing. Meanwhile, they are looking at cameras and using social networking to find other graffiti artists…they don’t have to look for Shepherd he’s right here! I don’t understand how some artists have to run from police and Shepherd Fairey is so public and they don’t seem to care at all.

    did i ask this before?

  36. whites are not the only racists says:

I don’t know why but it seems important to me right now. I’m in high school and want to make sure i’m taking the right classes now so I won’t have to in college. I’m interested in art, even though i’m not sure if that is a steady enough job for me or anyone. I like to take pictures and paint. I’m pretty good in my english class and good at math if I have a good teacher. I want a creative job but I also want steady pay, so being a freelance photographer or interior designer seems risky. Please just answer any jobs that are good at the moment and fairly easy to get. I don’t want to sit in an office all day, I want a fun job where I can express myself. Thanks for the help.

  37. Matthew says:

Okay so I am only in year 9 at the moment. But I really want to know what I want to do when I grow up. I need something that requires a lot of hands on work. So what is a good idea of work? I do not care how hard it is. Just I need ideas.

This year I took Graphic communication, VCE IT 1&2, Coreplus mathematics and the common subjects. I wanted to know whether that subjects will actually help me. And what subjects should I take in Year 11..
Please help me if you can.(:

completely went off the deep end and threw a HUGE tantrum in the mall, with everyone watching? He hardly ever throws tantrums but always whines and begs to try and get what he wants. When he was told no today he kept on and while we were walking past Santa, I said, “look there’s Santa watching you right now. ” Then I said “why don’t we go over there and tell him how ugly you have been acting today.” And he screamed “NOOOOOO DONT DO IT!!! NOOOOOO!”over and over again. Everyone, even Santa was staring as I dragged him out of the mall all the way to the door screaming all the way.
I told him when we got outside “no talking. I don’t want to hear any words out of your mouth the rest of the day.” And I have said nothing else. I am givin him the silent treatment and when we got home I taped off his room and told him he can’t go in (toys)
I am waiting for dad to get home. How would you suggest we handle it? We spank and do time out, but it obviously isn’t working. I need some ideas
I am waiting for hubby to come home so i can cool down and also so we can address this together so he understands that this is a BIG DEAL. I am not giving him silent treatment b/c I am so mad at him like a child, but b/c I really am shocked and don’t know how to handle this, and right now he knows that he shouldn’t say anything at all. I don’t want to talk to him and make it okay for him to talk right now. I need this quiet time to figure out how to handle this. He has only thrown like 3 tantrums his whole life; last one was two years ago.
Well, hubby should be home any minute and we are going to deal with it as a united front.
BTW, I had been doing “kid” stuff all morning; first the Party store to let my daughter pick a birthday theme (BTW she acted fine throughout this and she is 3), then the Toy Store, then the mall b/c they couldn’t agree on where to eat for lunch and the food court had both types of food and they each got what they wanted, then the toy store in the mall. That was IT. I had done no shopping for myself; I never do with the kids in tow. Yes they are spoiled and that is why he was being bratty about not getting the cookie he wanted.
Yes we are going to have to start taking things away. It is hard when you have grandparents that insist on seeing the kids x amount of times per week and bring presents every time they see them. And don’t listen to us when we ask them not to.
But we are to blame too. We give in way too much; I know I often give in just to shut them up and have peace. Gotta do bette

my friend and i are trying to compose a song about clothing, but we need some ideas on what clothing you like,
