I’ve been looking into this for a client and it’s a little confusing. Some recommend PDF, others an HTML compiler; and then there’s a grab-bag of programs ranging from free to almost $200 that promise everything from flash to videos.
Does anyone have any experience that would help me decide? The original manuscript is in MS Word.
Pedro, if you don’t understand the question, why answer? Is it just to look clever? Well it didn’t work.

  2. Elijah luv says:

I’ve been tasked with creating documentation for a new content management system our company is using. It’ll hopefully function more as a hybrid of a semi-technical document, and a user guide for the business team. I’d like to use a wiki. Currently it’s in PDF.

Are there any wiki products that you especially recommend? Any particular insight from those experienced in this arena? Thanks in advance. I will choose a best answer.

  3. Dom L says:

I’m trying to scan 730 something pages onto a PDF file and was wondering if all 730 pages would fit. I scanned in 200 something so far and it took up 14.4 MB. I don’t want to start the scanning project if it won’t all fit into one file.

  4. Scott W says:

I want to self-publish a book through Lulu and I need a program that allows me to design with a full bleed and save as a PDF.

  5. Motordom says:

Did Buddha really believe that everything that exists is just an illusion? Did He mean that all creation is just part of the same thing, and nothing is seperate? Did He teach that the universe was never created, and we just imagine it was? Is there any type of source to which he credits for the universe coming from? Please explain the Buddha’s teachings on such things.

  6. John says:

As if it is some sort of population exchange? Isn’t it too obvious that both populations were uprooted to serve one purpose which is the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine? Didn’t the Jewish Agency encourage Jewish immigration from Arab countries, while some Arab countries blocked that immigration? Beside of all that, Arab countries and Israel did not sign any population exchange agreement. Why should Palestinian exodus be in any way related to the Jewish immigration (even if you want to call it Jewish exodus too)?

  7. Dana G says:

I have docs in MS word and in pdf format. I need to import them into indesign for the purposes of creating an epub that i can upload to ibookstore. How can I do that? I would appreciate detailed steps. The tutorials in indesign are not helping me on this issue. I just need to create fixed layout epubs from the pdfs that I have. I know indesign is supposed to create them very easily.

  10. skillz says:

when i convert it to pdf the hyperlinks don’t work.

  11. ademuth93 says:

This would be a huge project, nonetheless, I wish to know where you would start collecting data in which to determine job creation efficiency.

For simplistic arguments, let’s put the government against the private sector for creation of jobs. Who is more efficient at it?

The third issue and the reason why it would be so hard to figure is that of sector requirements, i.e. building the space shuttle costs more than building let’s say a pig farm. The other difficult question is whether we need the space shuttle more than a pig farm. A calculation of diminishing returns would have to be implemented as well. Also, a ratio of job training and salary comes in to play.

  12. Milk84 says:

Should the copyright notice in the new edition state:

    c) 2005-2013
    d) Other

Obviously, the Geneva conventions of 1929 were a big deal, but what I want to know is why its creators felt that its creation was warranted. Good sources of where I can find the answer to this would be the most helpful, but answers here will be helpful too. Thank you.

  17. Cpt Excelsior says:

I’m wondering how long a given solar panel needs to produce before it “makes up for” the energy used in it’s creation. How much energy does it take to make a 1 watt solar panel?
I realize there are many different manufacturing methods, but I’m looking for a ballpark figure for the most common types of photovoltaics in widespread use today.

  18. Joe M says:

I’m doing an informative speech, and one of my sources is a PDF on my school’s website from its president of the Board of Trustees, which has an author and date of creation.

  22. DuckieM10 says:

In America there was a massive reaction with crashing of the stock markets when it was announced that job losses in the public sector were equal to job creation in the private sector. But if the two are equal, then surely there is no increase in unemployment and this is not great but okay.
Meanwhile, in the UK unemployment is rising with job creation in the private sector not managing to equal job losses in the public sector, so why is this not deemed as bad as no net jobs being created in the US?

  23. _marky_mark_ says:

I am trying to construct a form to send via email to clients where they can fill in the details on line and return to me via email. Could anyone please advise me on a user friendly (and preferably free) way to do this? Thanks.

  24. Hannah says:

I need to know exactly what steps and the average amount of time it take to get a completed PDF file to become a printed document. This could be a book. I am wondering about the time to double check it and do test prints and everything in between.
I am doing a professional print job. I am unsure of the colors. I really just need to write all the steps so I have a guide to follow. Choosing my color selection and paper would be a step along the way.

  25. Joe T says:

How is wealth ultimately created? Would it matter whether one spent a dollar on bus fare, or a luxury watch? Or is the answer simply dependent upon which contributes more to overall investment in new technologies, efficiency, etc. (whatever drives wealth creation) – and this could be consumer spending or business resources.

  26. Con Orpe says:

Manufacturing differences and energy consumed should be taken into account as well as necessary “other vehicles” needed to do jobs that the larger vehicle could do that the smaller one cannot, such as delivery of large items which would require a super large vehicle to do…..and accident repair which may cost more and create more heat for one vehicle verses the other on average.

Creation Science teaches that religious Genesis is the account of creation.
Intelligent design is the term used for the assertion that “certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection.”

In my opinion, I think the course Creation SCIENCE is practically an oxymoron. I’ve been reading up on a couple sites, and have difficulty believing that they should be taught.

    Thoughts?

I am currently a junior in high school (also taking classes at the local college to get ahead) and want to have a career in some sort of computer based designing, but I can’t choose. The two I’m mainly considering are web design and graphic design. I personally would prefer being in graphic design, but I hear that the income isn’t that great, and I’m not that creative or decisive, so I’m leaning towards web design. I’m just not that sure, though.
I’m trying to find out class and skill requirements, annual salary, and maybe more details about each career. Also personal input would be great, too!

I contacted a designer over a month ago to design a marketing piece and it’s still no where near being done (to my knowledge). I’ve always designed my own stuff but I’m getting too busy and am outsourcing so I’m not familiar with the design industry. Am I being unreasonable or should this be done yet? I was quoted I would be billed at 2-6 hours, so I figured it should be done. I would like to find out if my expectation of two weeks tops is unreasonable before I say anything to him/her because they’re a really nice person. I had a another designer design something and it took her a few months as well. This is just too long for me. Am I just having bad luck or expecting too much? What’s standard turnaround time here?

It’s for a paper I’m writing for school on Alzheimer’s disease. I understand that the accumulation of tau protein in the brain leads to neurofibrillary tangles, and that the accumulation of amyloid-beta peptides leads to the creation amyloid-beta plaques, and that these two things, the tangles and the plaques, are believed to cause many of the symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s. I also understand that neurofibrillary tangles are made up of hyperphosphorylated tau protein. (“Hyperphosphorylation” means that it has been completely phosphorylated. Phosphorylation is the addition or subtraction of phosphate groups to a protein or enzyme to activate it or deactivate it). In addition, I’ve read certain papers that lead me to believe that it is the amyloid-beta that causes the tau proteins to become hyperphosphhorylated.
(Keep in mind that I’m a layman and I’ve gathered all of my information from the internet, so if some of the above is wrong, don’t be too annoyed, just correct me please).
This is what I don’t understand: What causes the tau protein to accumulate in the first place?
Do we have that information, or do we not have the answer to that yet?
Is the accumulation also caused by the amyloid-beta, like the hyperphosphorylation? Because if it is, that would really help my paper.
Although, now that I think about it, it might also help my paper if it isn’t caused by the abeta…
By the way, please include a link to websites where you got your information from, unless you just know it off the top of your head. I’m pretty sure my teacher would throw a hissy fit if I cite Yahoo!Answers, as she rightly should. If it’s from a book, please include the title and page numbers, if it’s not too much of a bother-I can get the rest of the citation information myself.
I found the answer-when tau is hyperphosphorylated, it accumulates and forms neurofibrillary tangles. I’m still not quite sure WHY hyperphosphorylation causes it to do this, but I have the most important answer: Amyloid beta directly causes neurofibrillary tangles. Despite answering my own question, I’m going to go ahead and leave this question up, so that if someone else is searching the internet to try and find this out, they can see my answer.

I am trying to automate the creation of a set of financial statements monthly. I have multiple tabs in an excel file I want to print to a pdf. I use Adobe Acrobat X Pro.

If I use the “create pdf” feature from excel add in it gives me ability to select which tabs I wanted printed and reorder them. However I cannot determine how to save these settings. Once I close Excel I lose the tabs that have been selected and have to go thru the process again. How can I set up a routine that I can run again and again?

I am not looking for an excel macro solution. I can do that if I must but adobe must have a solution a well.

    Hey guys,

I’ve seen quite a few options out there for creating pdf’s on the fly with php. I’m just looking for some general insights on what is the best method to use.

Basically I’m looking to take a pdf on my server as the template, modify it by adding some dynamic text, save the pdf as a new file and then be able to download the modified copy.

This is in a shared server environment so I don’t have total freedom to install mods so a more universal solution would be what I’m looking for.

    Thanks a lot everyone

I’ve been trying to create a PDF file in a custom size (891.08 pts X 666 pts.). I’ve tried several different programs to do this. In each case, I have specified the desired page size before creating the PDF. I have also made sure that the OS (Windows XP) was aware of the size. The page size of the document is the same as what I want in the PDF. And yet, invariably, my pdf files (and ps files) are coming out letter size. (8.5 X 11 inches)

This is driving me nuts. I tried contacting the software creators for help, with no response. Can anyone tell me why my pdfs are automatically resizing?
I’ve tried more than one. The result is the same with all of them. They all allow for user defined page size. I’ve tried Acrobat Distiller, doPDF v. 6, and PrimoPDF.
